MANDAWA: A small town in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan with a unique medieval charm. The streets are lined with richly painted houses and each town is bustling with activity. Each home and small little castles are richly painted with Shekhawati paintings known for its uniqueness and rich colours are still unimaginable that it could have been possible to exist during those old days.

BIKANER CITY - A desert fortified city on the ancient caravan routes that originated from Africa and West Asia. The fort, founded by Raja Rai Singh, is distinguished by its long range of 37 pavilions, a line of balconies. It also has windows of varying designs which lend it a graceful dignity. An enormous archway leads to the Jormal temple in a spacious courtyard. Tar Mandir is the royal chapel where Royal weddings and births were once solemnised.

JAISALMER CITY: The citadel city built in the 12th century is an architectural dream in yellow sandstone lying in the lonely silence of the Thar Desert, would provoke wonder, at what could have induced Jaisal, a Bhatti Prince, to settle right in the heart of a desolate desert. The forts and palaces and several superbly carved Jain temples in and around Jaisalmer are all reminiscent of a gloriously history. From the balconies jutting out from either side of the lanes, almost touch overhead. Patwon ki Haveli, Nathmalji ki Haveli are some of the notable mansions.

Day 6: Jaisalmer - Jodhpur

Afternoon city tour of Jodhpur:
Mehrangarh Fort, JodhpurJODHPUR CITY: The home of the Rathore rulers - the princely state of Rajasthan. A high 10 kms long stone wall protects the well fortified city. Within, stands an imposing fort on a low range of sandstone hills, about 125 mts. above the surrounding plains. Visit Mehrangarh Fort - founded in 1459 A.D. by Rao Jodha (After whom the city is named) the Fort is intricately adorned with long carved panels and latticed windows of exquisite designs in Red Sandstone. Also visit Jaswant Thada - an imposing white marble cenotaph built to commemorate the acts of bravery and generosity of the rulers in 19th century.

Day 7: Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur
Leave Jodhpur for Udaipur by surface, enroute visit:
RANAKPUR: Famous for the quadruple Jain temple dedicated, like the temples at Mount Abu to Adinath. The whole structure has 80 domes and is of 400 pillars.

After the visit continue your drive, on arrival check-in at HOTEL.

Day 8: Udaipur
Morning visit Eklingji and Nagda.

EKLINGJI: 14 miles North-East of Udaipur is the village of Kailashpuri which is known for its 108 temples surrounded by a high fortified wall, the whole complex is known as Sri Eklingji temple and has been a holy site associated with Lord Shiva since ancient times. The present structure however, date from the 16th century.

Lake Palace, UdaipurNAGDA: Close to Kailashpuri down a rough country road is believed to have been established by Nagaditya the fourth Mewar king a descendant of the Guhadatta who was born in a cave in the Aravali mountains. There are several temples dating back to the fourth century A.D.

Afternoon city tour of Udaipur.

UDAIPUR CITY: In the most midst of this romantic fate ridden land you come Udaipur, beautiful city of lakes, palaces and fountain. In the shadows of dark green hills, Udaipur's three lakes - Pichola, Fateh Sagar and Udai Sagar are shimmering jewels from the opal surfaces of which rise fairytale white palaces. Maharana Udai Singh sought shelter here from the Mughal hordes and then tarried to fashion a city out of the silent vale. Visit the City Palace Museum - grandeur and intricacy stroked all over in Granite, Marble and Mosaic displayed in the sparkling white filigreed balconies and windows, ornate arches and cupolas atop magnificient octagonal towers, Jagdish Temple - built in 1651 A.D. Also visit Sahelion Ki Bari - the spectacular garden displaying the unique life style of the royal ladies who once lived in the palace.

Day 11: Jaipur
Morning visit Amber Fort:
Hawa Mahal, JaipurAMBER FORT: 11 kms from Jaipur - A marvelous example of Rajput architecture with its terraces and ramparts reflected in the Maota Lake below. The magnificent old citadel, a labyrinth of massive walls and towers, shrouds an exquisite marble palace, pillared and carved glimmering with a million tiny mirrors, which create tantalising reflection effect. The ascent to the fort is on gaily caparisoned elephants.

Afternoon city tour of Jaipur:
JAIPUR CITY: City Palace Museum - an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal art. The Museum is resplendent with its collection of robes of royal princes, carpets, an armoury of old weapons, miniature paintings portraying court scenes, battle scenes and procession, Jantar Mantar (Observatory) - an accurate Observatory built in 1726 AD : Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) - a five storeyed wonder with a spectacular pyramidal facade and overhanging windows with latticed screens, domes and spires.

Day 12: Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra
Leave Jaipur for Agra by surface, enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri:
FATEHPUR SIKRI - A fascinating ghost town, lies a little beyond Agra the deserted Red sandstone city that was built by Emperor Akbar as his capital. It was a veritable fairy tale city and its ruins are still in a pristine condition. It is not hard to imagine what the court life must have been like in the days of its grandeur. Set like a jewel in a courtyard of pink sandstone is the marble tomb of the Saint Salim Chisti, enclosed by delicately carved marble screens. Leave Agra for Delhi by surface, on arrival proceed for combined sightseeing tour of Old & New Delhi

OLD DELHI: An ancient walled city. Here you will see Red Fort (visit subject to security permission) , the most opulent Fort and Palace of the Mughal Empire: Raj Ghat, the memorial site of the Mahatma Gandhi; Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India; and Chandni Chowk, the bustling and colourful market of the old city.

NEW DELHI: This city designed and built by the British in the 1920's - a city of wide boulevards impressive Government buildings, green parks and gardens. First you will visit two monuments from Delhi's past Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. Then your drive takes you along the ceremonial avenue, Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate and Parliament House. Day 3: Samode - Deogarh (348 kms / 10 hrs)
Morning city tour of Samode.

Udaipur City PalaceSAMODE : The village of Samode is on a former caravan route and although not strictly in the Shekhavati region. The village with its local artisans producing printed cloth and glass bangles, nestles within its old walls in the dry rugged hills of the northern Aravallis. The old havelis and their paintings are still full of character, at the head of the enclosed valley is the remarkable Samode Palace now converted into a hotel. The palace is fabulously decorated with 300 year old fine Shekhavati style wall paintings which still look almost new. Around the first floor of the Durbar Hall are magnificent kiosks, decorated like Shish Mahal.
On a hill immediately above the palace is Samode Fort, the Maharajah’s former residence, reached in times of trouble by an underground passage. The old stone zig-zag path has been replaced by 300 steps which you climb to see the fort. Though dilapidated, there are excellent views from the ramparts. The main fort gate is the starting point on some enticing walks into the Aravallis.

Day 6: Udaipur - Dungarpur (74 kms / 2 hrs)

Afternoon visit Dungarpur.

DUNGARPUR : The district is the main home of the Bhil tribal people. The tribal festival at the Baneshwar Temple, 70 kms from Dungarpur, draws hundreds of thousands every January - February. Dungarpur itself dates from the 13th century and became the important centre of Rajput power.

Day 7: Dungarpur - Chittaurgarh - Bijaipur (215 kms / 6 hrs)
Leave Dungarpur for Bijaipur by surface, enroute visit Chittorgarh.

Chittaurgarh FortCHITTORGARH: It is a heroic city proudest of all Rajput fortresses. If ever there was a city which witnessed bloody carnage and rare sacrifice, it was this. Ransacked three times, Chittorgarh represents the quintessence of Rajput chivalry and valour. The ruins of the great monuments here depict the innumerable deeds of heroism and sacrifice. On the crest of the enormous grey hill, girdled by massive walls and seven majestic gateways, one stumbles upon shattered palaces, a temple of Mirabai - the mystic poetess, and the intricately carved nine storeyed tower of victory rising into the sky. Near a Jain temple stands the tower of fame, built in the 12th century in honour of Lord Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankara (meaning incarnation of descendant).

Day 8: Bijaipur - Kota - Bundi - Rajmahal (235 kms / 5 hrs)
Leave Bijaipur for Rajmahal by surface, enroute visit Kota and Bundi:
KOTA: The Fort lacked an overall plan. The city palace within the fort, part of which is not Madho Singh museum, contains some striking buildings and was built on a huge scale. The Bhim Mahal, a large Durbar Hall is covered with Rajput miniatures documenting the town’s periods of expasion and recording Kota’s legends. The Hathi Pol- Elephant gate 1625 - 48 had murlas added to it at a later stage, on of which depicts a royal wedding procession. The exterior of the palace has robust fortifications and delicate ornamental stonework. The Akhade Ka Mahal (1723-56) - was added to the west of the inner court. The Hawa Mahal (1864) is modelled on its famous name sake in Jaipur.

BUNDI ::lies on the side of a steep hill and the palace, situated by a lake with little islands. The Chatar Mahal is a green serpentine rock and is pure Rajput in style. A steep ramp provides access which is through the Hazari Darwaza (1,000 gate) where the garrision lived. The palace entrance is through the Hati Pol (elephant gate) which has two rampant elephants carved at the top of the archway.

The Chitra Mahal, an open court yard with gallery running around a garden of fountains, has a splendid collection of miniatures showing scenes from the Radha Krishna story. The 18th century murals are some of the finest examples of Rajput art. There is supposed to be labyrinth of catacombs in which the state treasures are blieved to have been stored. Each ruler was allowed one visit but when the last guide died in the 1940s the secret of its locations was lost.

Day 9: Rajmahal - Sanganer - Jaipur (170 kms / 3.30 hrs)
Leave Rajmahal for Jaipur by surface, enroute visit Sanganer.

SANGANER: 11 kms from Jaipur and you are at Sanganer. The world famous centre of block printed fabrics and handmade paper. In the courtyard of every house, cotton textiles are dyed and hand printed in a gay profusion of colours and designs. The town has ruins of imperial palaces, Jain temples and Toranas or gateways.
